Two ropers, header and heeler, are trying to bring down a steer. The header signals for the steer to be allowed out, and when the steer is released the header chases him down. The header tries to get the rope around the horns, neck, or one horn and around the head. When the header gets the rope around the steer, then the header wraps the other end around the head of the saddle. The horse starts to run again, and the steer follows the horse. When the steer is following the horse the heeler comes up from behind and tries to rope the back legs of the steer. As soon as the heeler has dallies tight then the header turns the horse towards the steer and the heeler. Both horses start to back up to immobilize the steer, and when the steer is stretched an official waves a flag to signal to stop the clock.
