The calf is released from a chute, and when it leaves the chute the roper, atop a horse, are released in the arena. The horse and the roper chase the calf down, and try to loop the rope around the neck of the calf. Once the lasso is around the calf’s neck the roper walks to the calf without letting the rope get away. When the roper gets to the calf he flips it over and ties up three of the calf’s legs. Once the calf is tied up securely, the roper will throw his hand in the air to show that he is done and signal to stop the clock.
